17 April 2006 Designs of solar voltaic cells based on carbon nano-tubes

Abstract
Since the recent success of Freitag et al (2002 NL), Guo et al. (PR 2004) and J-U Lee (2005 APL)of GE have demonstrated about 5% conversion efficiency of Voltaic Cell using a homogeneous lithography fabrication of single wall Carbon NanoTubes (CNT, or SWNT) as the p-n junction diode tuned at 1.5μm CW IR laser diode under 10 mW. We apply a NanoRobot of Xi and Szu to build the heterogeneous structure of a bundle of 4 CNT's for 4 solar spectral bands in 4 polarization orientations, a total of 16 CNTs per single unit of solar cells. In so doing, we design a circuit of 3 electrodes for 16 sources which can increase the efficiency to 80% per unit capturing the solar irradiance. The Einstein photoelectrical effect generating electron-hole pairs in the one-dimensional semiconductor band gap material: Carbon NanoTubes will be collected by a bias voltage on the side.
