Abstract
This paper describes a grading procedure that evaluates the performance of edge operators and thus provides feedback for improvement of the operators. The quantitative grade permits the optimization of magnitude threshold levels as well as thinning and linking criteria. Operator performance is shown to improve by a factor of two on aerial imagery using this technique.
