Constant global monitoring of the air quality requires coverage of the earth by satellites with spectro-polarimetric capabilities. To make this financially viable, miniaturization is essential.
Modern techniques enable us to directly pattern spectral and polarimetric filters on detector chips, varying their properties pixel-to-pixel. Each pixel contains unique information and by combining the information of neighboring pixels through a reconstruction algorithm, the spectro-polarimetric data of the earth can be approximated.
We will present a design framework that simultaneously optimizes the properties of the filters and the parameters of the reconstruction algorithm to get the most accurate representation of the spectro-polarimetric data.
