Fast switching speed image flipping technique using an SSD-LC drive mode is proposed for VR/AR/MR applications. Thanks to in-plane only retardation switching of an SSD-LC drive mode whole the way of its switching process, high diffraction efficiency with +/- first order diffraction beam enables an effective image flipping either to left or right, resulting in effective impose of additional images on the original actual image. This image flipping method is provided by one of the simplest liquid crystal panel configurations and the simplest panel configuration helps design adoptability for most of VR/AR/MR system.
