Abstract
We demonstrate the highly efficient re-expansion formulation to determine the modes of a complex micro-structured optical fibers. The key to the success of this method is the inclusion of geometry-adapted minimal longitudinal basis set to effectively replicate the discontinuities in complex fiber permittivity profile, particularly solving the problem of the Gibbs phenomenon.
