Vlasov antennas are widely used for transforming the whispering gallery mode (WGM) output of gyrotrons to a free space TEM mode. To improve the overall efficiency of a Vlasov antenna system, we have investigated the use of wall perturbations inside the Vlasov launcher to transform the TEmn WGM to a Gaussian beam. In this paper, we will discuss the design methodology and present some experimental and theoretical results.
