Abstract

We describe a hybrid optoelectronic neurocomputer based on photorefractive crystals in which each neural network interconnection and its weight is stored in a set of angularly- and spatially-multiplexed gratings generated by stimulated processes in photorefractive crystals called beam fanning. This approach to holographic storage reduces crosstalk and improves system performance. Successfully implemented neural networks include the Perceptron, Bidirectional Associative Memory, and multi-layer backpropagation networks. Preliminary results are presented.
