Abstract
A novel method to suppress the pedestal of high-power ultrashort laser pulses by use of self- focusing is proposed and demonstrated. Both the steady-state self-focusing and the transient self-focusing are explored. Numerical results show that the intensity contrast ratio of better than 108 can be obtained with this method.
