16 August 2001 Naval air defense: multiple-model approach to the angular tracking and targeting of antiship missiles

Abstract
Nowadays, Naval Combat Systems have to deal with different kinds of fast moving incoming missiles including weaving sea-skimmers and BUNT missiles. Their high maneuver capabilities broadly lead to tracking locks-off. The article addresses this situation and describes an angle- only Multiple Models KALMAN Filter (MMKF) devoted to self- defense against head-on maneuvering missiles. The application is tracking achieved by search passive sensors such as Infrared Search and Track sensors (IRST). Then, and example of implementation of the MMKF in a Sensor Suite Processing is provided. The case of a Full Silent Search Platform including an IRST and an ESM is studied with different incoming missile scenarios (Monte-Carlo analysis).
