Abstract
We describe an algorithm to accurately estimate the carrier frequency of a single sideband HF speech signal. The algorithm is based on an outer product applied to a complex-valued time-frequency representation in which instantaneous frequency is encoded as the complex argument and the spectrogram is encoded as magnitude. Simple matrix operations are applied to isolate and estimate the carrier. The algorithm is fast, efficient, easily coded and converges rapidly to a very accurate carrier estimate.
