Abstract

It is for the first time that the high-temperature characteristics of long period fiber gratings, written by high-frequency CO₂ laser pulses in standard telecommunication fiber, are presented. When the temperature is below 800°C the relationship between the resonant wavelength shift of the grating and the change in temperature is approximately linear, while the temperature is over 800°C such a relationship becomes nonlinear. Similar strain response of the grating under high temperature is also presented.
