Abstract
An experimental study of the reach of coherent 40 Gb/s PDM RZ QPSK transmission on two different testbeds at several spectral efficiencies is presented. Performance using differential phase detection (DQPSK), differential coding (DCQPSK) and absolute phase detection (QPSK) in digital processing is investigated. The system reach at spectral efficiency of ≥1.2 bits/s/Hz is investigated on a transmission path made up of large effective area fiber with no optical dispersion compensation. Transpacific transmission distance at 3.2 bits/s/Hz and record SE-distance product at 2.4 bits/s/Hz are demonstrated.
