Abstract
In the recent past, the area associated with generation and manipulation of orbital currents and orbital magnetism, and their utilization for magnetization dynamics, has gained considerable attention. However, in the ultrafast domain, it is only till recently that the orbital degree of freedom started gaining attention in THz emission experiments. In my talk, I will report on our understanding of ultrafast generation of orbital magnetism and orbital currents by light in various light materials, i.e. metallic Rashba surfaces, antiferromagnets and altermagnets.
