Abstract
Although the aberration properties of GRIN optical elements are fairly peculiar, the principle of their work (refraction) is similar to that of homogeneous refractive lenses. That is why the design parameters necessary for fabricating these elements are calculated in almost the same way as for conventional homogeneous lenses. In the case of DLs the calculation of the design parameters and the analysis of the effects caused by their departure from optimal values are rather peculiar. For this reason in this chapter the authors focus attention on diffractive elements.
