Abstract
Nutritional therapy for diabetes is key to helping regulate blood sugar. This paper reviews the possible biological mechanisms and pathways of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids to improve type 2 diabetes and its complications, as well as the controversies in the current studies of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in the type 2 diabetes population and cardiovascular diseases, with the aim of drawing lessons and broadening ideas for the future nutritional treatment of diabetes. Through a comprehensive search of different databases and appropriate keywords, it was concluded that n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids have an effect on blood glucose, blood lipids, oxidative stress status, inflammatory response and renal function. However, the current research on n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids targeted at the population also needs to take into account the influence of other factors, including genes and the environment.
