I am an experimental physicist involved in quantum optics experiments within the SiQuro project, at the University of Trento, Italy.
In particular, by means of optical nonlinear effects, we generate entangled photon pairs, which are the revealed thanks to single-photon detectors. The typical measurement performed is a coincidence measurement. We work either in integrated or free space set-up.
In the last months I was focused in this kind of measurement in the Mid Infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum, that is to say at a wavelength of about 3 micron. The challenge of this work is to find a suitable single-photon detector in the MIR, which is a task not trivial at all.
Generally I am interest in studying optical nonlinear phenomena, within the field of quantum photonics and silicon photonics (even not quantum!).
Recently I won the best student paper presentation at SPIE's Photonics Europe International Symposia held 3-7 April 2016 in Brussels (Belgium), in the section: Nonlinear Optics and its Applications. The title of my contribution was: "One and two-photon quantum interference in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer", which was published in the SPIE Conference Proceedings.
